Philips Sonicare Power Flosser 5000 – Honest Review

On a scale from 1 to 10, we are giving the Philips Sonicare Power Flosser 5000, a solid 8.

The Philips Sonicare Power Flosser 5000 is a solid and reliable device that provides a real improvement in gum health, it is capable of removing plaque and debris from the teeth surface and under the gumlines, making it really helpful to fight gingivitis, its benefits are clinically proven and it has been awarded the American Dental Association’s seal of approval.

It has some minor design flaws that might be uncomfortable for some people, but it is still a great product with an affordable price, so we still think it is worth buying.

Pros

  • It has a clean, elegant design, the main unit incorporates an On/Off button, a button to change cleaning modes, and a dial to regulate the intensity.
  • The handle has a switch that allows you to control the water flow without going to the main unit buttons.
  • The handle has magnets to keep it attached to the main unit when not in use.
  • The water tank has a capacity of 550 ml (18.6 oz), which is more than enough to complete a session without having to refill the tank (approximately 1 minute and 20 seconds of flossing at the maximum intensity).
  • The water tank is fully removable so it’s easier to fill and clean, the lid of the tank is removable as well.
  • Its effectiveness has been clinically tested and it owns the ADA (American Dental Association) seal of approval.
  • It comes with 2 cleaning modes: Clean and deep clean; on clean mode, you get a constant water stream at the same intensity throughout the session, while on deep clean mode, you get water pulses, and the intensity variates throughout the session.
  • It comes with 10 different intensities, 1 is the softest one, and 10 is the strongest one, we advise you to start with the lowest intensity and then start leveling up until you find the appropriate intensity for you.
  • It comes with a pacer that briefly pauses the stream of water every 30 seconds for you to move to another area; you can still floss even after the pacer completes its cycle.
  • It’s noticeably quieter than other brands, especially when you are using the lower intensities.
  • It comes with two different tips, a standard tip that provides a single stream of water, and a quad-stream tip that provides an X-shaped stream of water; the last one is highly efficient in removing plaque from a bigger area in less time.

Cons

  • The tip doesn’t rotate so you must move the whole handle to reach some areas.
  • The water hose is a bit rigid and short and uncomfortable to use.
  • It is easy to accidentally move the water flow button at the handle and that’s annoying.
